Managing different personalities in a team: what Insights Discovery really changes
Matthieu Delache · 29 September 2026
Picture a Monday morning team meeting. The sales manager wants a decision now. Her colleague in marketing already has three new ideas. The HR manager checks that everyone is on board. The finance controller asks for the numbers before saying anything.
An hour later, nobody is happy. Everyone leaves thinking the others are the problem.
They are not. They simply work differently.
The paradox of teams that think alike
The more a team thinks alike, the more comfortable it feels. And the less it moves forward.
When everyone thinks the same way, meetings are pleasant. But the blind spots are shared too. Nobody asks the awkward question, nobody slows down when they should, nobody pushes when things stall.
Diverse personalities are an asset. But they only create value when the team knows how to understand each other. Without that shared language, they mostly create friction.
Four energies, and we all have them
Insights Discovery® describes each person's preferences through four colour energies:
- Fiery Red: direct, results focused, likes to decide fast.
- Sunshine Yellow: enthusiastic, sociable, full of ideas.
- Earth Green: caring, looks for harmony and consensus.
- Cool Blue: precise, analytical, needs data before acting.
The key point: each of us has all four energies, in different proportions. Nobody is "a red" or "a blue". We have a preference, and it shows most under pressure.
Mauritius lives this every day: an island where different cultures share one home. Our teams can do the same with personalities.
What actually changes for a manager
The model is not about labels. It is about adapting how you communicate. Three simple moves:
- Start from the other person's preference, not yours. Send the numbers ahead of the meeting to someone with a Blue preference. Give the conclusion first to someone with a Red preference.
- Name the tension without judging. "You want to move, she wants to check. Both are useful. What do we need right now?" That one sentence defuses a lot of conflict.
- Pair people with intent. Match the drive of a Yellow energy with the rigour of a Blue energy on a project. The result is often better than the sum of both.
The real work starts after the workshop
Discovering your profile takes a day. Changing communication habits takes weeks. That is why an Insights Discovery workshop only makes sense when it is linked to the team's real challenges: a reorganisation, a new leader, tension between departments.
That is how I work at Hivemind Connection: a diagnostic first, then an experiential workshop, then follow-up in the team's day-to-day work.
